people came to town and set up a stand out on the street and took pictures 3 for $.10
It was nothing unusual to have Tramps come to your door wanting something to eat
Also, there were Gypsies in their covered wagons, and I was scared to death of them.
People made their own kraut, dried their apples, made hominy out of their corn, and those that had sorghum mills made sorghum molasses. People took their wheat to the mill and had it ground for flour, they made tomato and watermelon preserves, milked cows by hand for their own milk, made cottage cheese and longhorn cheese, churned their own butter, raised their own popcorn, and they also made their own lye soap. which I hated!. They also made their own feather beds and pillows by saving feathers from chickens, geese, etc. I loved to sleep on feather beds, they were so soft!
